in Kassel – Capital of the German Fairy-Tale Route
Discover Kassel – the "Capital of the German Fairy-Tale Route" with a wide choice of tourist sights located throughout the city, including the places where the Brothers Grimm lived and worked. Pay a visit to the Brothers Grimm Museum, the Fairy-Tale quarter and the house where Dorothea Viehmann was born, the woman who related fairy tales to the Brothers Grimm. Take time to enjoy a stroll through the city or a walk through our wonderful parks or visit Europe’s largest hillside park and the Wilhelmshöhe Palace. In the evening, it’s time to let yourself be captured by the yuletide magic of the Fairy-Tale Christmas Market.
Take a leisurely stroll through the festively decorated city centre and marvel at Germany´s biggest revolving Christmas pyramid on the Königsplatz, the main city square. The motto for the 2009 market is "King Trushbeard". Adding to the atmosphere are over 140 stalls on the main squares, Königsplatz and Friedrichsplatz, containing arts and crafts’ displays as well as a tempting range of food. Starting on November 23rd and continuing up to December 23rd, the market is open every day from 11am till 8pm.
