Antique Collection (Antikensammlung)

Schloss Wilhelmshöhe

Kasseler Apollon

On the ground floor sculptures, vases, coins and objets d’art from Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman times give visitors an overview of how these ancient Mediterranean cultures developed.

Alongside the famous Kassel statue of Apollo visitors can admire the bronze statuette of Victoria von Fossombrone in addition to a first-rate collection of Greek vases and the Roman seasons-sarcophagus decorated with the wine-god Bacchus (Dionysus to the Greeks) in the centre as well as many other Roman portraits.

In the basement the famous cork models of ancient Roman buildings created by A. Chichi at the end of the 18th century can be viewed in a large glass case.

Visitors can buy refreshments at the museum’s bistro.
