Ballroom in Schloss Wilhelmshöhe

View into the Ballroom

This historical architectural monument was intended as a court theatre. King Jérôme Bonaparte’s "court architect" Leo von Klenze started work on it in 1808.

Ballroom Landgrave Wilhelm II of Hesse-Kassel commissioned his architect J.C. Bromeis to rebuild the theatre in 1828. The interior decoration was completed in 1830, lending the huge hall a cheerful and festive air on account of the colourful and elaborate paintings on ceiling and walls.

After many years of maintenance and restoration the building has been open to the public again since 1986 and is used for different exhibitions from April to October, for example: J.C. Bromeis 1988, Karl Rumpf 1989, From Coast to Coast 1992 & A. Fiorino Collection 1994. Catalogues are available for all these exhibitions
