Music and Drama in Kassel
Guided sightseeing tour
A wonderful history backed up by centuries of tradition:
Kassel’s orchestra is over 500 years old and one of the oldest in Europe. The Ottoneum (natural history museum) was once Germany’s first established theatre. Musicians such as Schütz and Mahler are closely connected with Kassel. Louis Spohr, together with Paganini the greatest violinist of his day, is present in the Louis Spohr Gedenk- und Forschungsstätte (Remembrance and Research Centre) – a museum on the history of violin playing. The Prussian Royal Theatre gave birth to Kassel’s Staatstheater which is currently housed in a special domed-shaped building.
